Neutrino — Oscillation & Mass Ordering

PMNS mixing from lepton cascade depths: ν_α → ν_β as each mode drifts in phase.

SPT Model

Neutrinos oscillate because the flavour eigenstates (e, μ, τ) are not the same as the mass eigenstates (ν₁, ν₂, ν₃). On the SPT membrane, the PMNS rotation arises from cascade-depth phase mixing between the three lepton generations: a state created as ν_μ is a superposition of ν₁, ν₂, ν₃ that drifts in phase as it propagates, and that phase shift converts it back into a different flavour mixture.

U is the PMNS mixing matrix; m_i are mass eigenvalues; L baseline; E energy.
Two-flavour reduction
Drives T2K appearance signal. With θ_13 = 8.6°, gives ~5% probability at L/E ≈ 500 km/GeV.
PMNS angles (PDG NuFIT 2024)
Cascade-depth differences yield these angles from membrane geometry: small θ_13 = small lepton-cascade overlap.
Mass-squared splittings
Solar (small) and atmospheric (large) splittings. Hierarchy ratio ≈ 33.
Mass ordering — normal
SPT predicts NORMAL ordering. JUNO / DUNE will confirm or falsify by 2030.
MSW (matter-enhanced) survival
In the Sun's core, electron density modifies θ_12 → θ_12^eff. Predicts P_ee ≈ 0.34 at solar-neutrino energies.
