The Eight Bagua Trigrams, DAbit & DANode — the configurations of matter and antimatter
A detailed, accessible guide to the building blocks of SPT: the DAbit (one yin/yang bit), the DANode (a node carrying 7 DAbit + a 4-spinor of matter), and the eight Bagua trigrams (the 2³ = 8 configurations of the 3 internal-gauge DAbit). Explains the physical character of each trigram — Càn ☰ (all-yang, antimatter-saturated) through Khôn ☷ (all-yin, vacuum / dark-matter pole) — the Hamming-weight charge, the DA balance, the four Z₂_DA matter/antimatter dual pairs (Law 8), the DANode 4-spinor (c↑,c↓,c̄↑,c̄↓), and how a DANode moves between sectors by emitting a gauge boson. The 8 sectors are real particle types coexisting in ONE reality (not parallel universes). Verified in spt_danode_8realities.py.
1. Three words: DAbit, DANode, trigram
Before anything else, three pieces of vocabulary. They are simpler than they sound.
2. A DANode has 7 DAbit — and 3 of them make the trigram
Why seven switches? Because the spacetime lattice is Q₇ — a 7-dimensional hypercube. Law 58 shows the only stable way to split those 7 DAbit is 3 + 1 + 3: three for space, one for time, and three for internal gauge. It is the LAST group of three — the internal-gauge DAbit — that we read as a trigram. The first four (space + time) tell a DANode WHERE and WHEN it is; the last three tell it WHAT it is.
3. The eight trigrams — the master table
Here are all eight, with everything you need to read them. Two numbers do the work. The HAMMING WEIGHT w counts how many of the three DAbit are Dương (yang, DA+) — it ranges 0–3 and acts like a charge. The DA BALANCE = (number of DA+) − (number of DA−) = 2w − 3, ranging −3 to +3, tells you how matter-leaning or antimatter-leaning the sector is.
| Trigram | DAbit | w (DA+ count) | DA balance | Physical character (SPT) | Z₂_DA dual |

| Khôn ☷ | (0,0,0) | 0 | −3 | Vacuum / dark-matter pole (the all-yin pole) | Càn ☰ |
4. The four shells — what each kind of trigram IS
The eight trigrams fall into four 'shells' by Hamming weight (w = 3, 2, 1, 0). Each shell has a distinct physical character. Read them as a ladder from the antimatter pole at the top to the vacuum pole at the bottom.

Ly ☲ = Fire → light/photon. The I Ching trigram Ly means Fire, brightness, the clinging — light itself. So it is natural to read Ly as the home of radiation. The honest nuance: in the rigorous picture (Section 7), the photon, gluon and W are the gauge bosons EMITTED when a DANode flips a DAbit — they are the EDGES of the Bagua cube (the transitions), not occupants of a vertex. So "Ly = photon" is best read as: the Ly sector is where light-like, radiative behaviour is most at home, while the photon strictly IS the act of moving along an edge. Fire points at light; the edge IS light.
Khảm ☵ = Water → neutrino. Khảm means Water, the abysmal — that which flows, penetrates everything, and is almost impossible to hold. The neutrino is exactly this: a w=1 (low-charge) fermion that passes through matter almost untouched. The trigram's near-emptiness of yang switches (only one DA+) mirrors the neutrino's near-absence of charge. A suggestive, satisfying match — though again, a precise neutrino state needs its full spinor + cascade depth, not the trigram alone.
Cấn ☶ = Mountain → dark matter. Cấn means Mountain, keeping still — heavy, immovable, present but inert. Dark matter is felt only by its gravity: massive, still, and hidden. The w=1 yin-dominant sectors are precisely the dark-sector partners of the matter shell, and the SPT dark-matter candidate count C(7,4) = 35 comes from counting yin-dominant configurations across the full Q₇ (see the dark-matter wiki). So Cấn evoking dark matter is more than poetry — it sits in the same yin-dominant family that the rigorous count selects. Note that the vacuum pole Khôn (w=0) is also dark-matter-leaning; dark matter lives in the yin-heavy end of the ladder, of which Cấn and Khôn are the clearest examples.
Càn ☰ (w = 3) — the antimatter pole
All three internal DAbit are Dương (yang). This is the maximally charged corner of the cube — every switch flipped 'on'. In SPT's structural assignment it is the antimatter-saturated sector: the place where a DANode carries the largest positive DA-charge. There is exactly ONE trigram like this (you cannot be more yang than all-yang), which is why antimatter is a single extreme, not a spread. Culturally this is the I Ching's Heaven (Trời) — pure, active, the creative pole — but the physics meaning (maximal DA-charge) is SPT's own, separate from divination.
Đoài ☱ · Ly ☲ · Tốn ☴ (w = 2) — the matter-leaning shell
Two switches yang, one yin (DA balance +1). These three are the matter-leaning sectors — DA+-dominant but not saturated. This is where ordinary baryonic matter (the stuff of stars, planets, and you) sits most naturally. There are exactly THREE of them — because there are three ways to choose which single DAbit is the 'odd one out' (yin). That three-fold count echoes structures like the three colours of the strong force. In the I Ching these are Lake/Marsh (Đoài), Fire (Ly), and Wind (Tốn) — but again, the physics label is the DA balance, not the element.
Chấn ☳ · Khảm ☵ · Cấn ☶ (w = 1) — the yin-dominant shell
One switch yang, two yin (DA balance −1). The mirror image of the matter shell: now DA−(yin) dominates. These are the neutral-leaning / yin-dominant sectors. Combinatorially they are the dark-sector partners of the matter shell — and indeed SPT's dark-matter candidate count, C(7,4) = 35, comes from counting yin-dominant configurations across the full Q₇ (see the dark-matter wiki). In the I Ching: Thunder (Chấn), Water (Khảm), Mountain (Cấn).
Khôn ☷ (w = 0) — the vacuum / dark-matter pole
All three switches yin (DA balance −3). The opposite extreme from Càn: zero DA-charge, the emptiest corner of the cube. SPT reads it as the vacuum / dark-matter-leaning pole — the lowest sector, the closest a DANode comes to 'nothing'. Like Càn it is unique (you cannot be more yin than all-yin). In the I Ching this is Earth (Đất) — receptive, still, the yielding pole — and structurally it is the perfect mirror of Heaven, which is exactly the next section.
5. Matter ↔ antimatter: the four Z₂_DA dual pairs (Law 8)
Here is the most beautiful structure on the page. Take ANY trigram and flip every switch (yin↔yang). You always land on another valid trigram — its DUAL. Each trigram plus its dual adds up to (1,1,1): they are perfect complements. This flip is the Z₂_DA symmetry (Law 8), and it IS the matter ↔ antimatter operation. The eight sectors therefore pair off into exactly FOUR matter/antimatter dual pairs:
6. Inside the DANode: the 4-spinor where matter actually lives
The trigram is the LABEL on the box; the 4-spinor is what is INSIDE it. Every DANode carries a four-component spinor ψ = (c↑, c↓, c̄↑, c̄↓). Read it as two independent yes/no choices: spin (↑ or ↓) and matter-vs-antimatter (c = matter, c̄ = anti). Two binary choices → four components. This is the same 4-spinor in ALL eight trigrams — the trigram does not change the spinor, it changes the CHARGE the spinor carries. So 'an electron' and 'a red quark' can share the identical spinor structure while sitting in different trigram sectors.
7. How a DANode changes trigram: emit a gauge boson
The eight trigrams are the eight corners of a cube (each corner = one setting of the 3 switches). Two corners are NEIGHBOURS when they differ in exactly ONE switch — and there are exactly 12 such edges. Flipping one DAbit means EMITTING one gauge boson: a gluon flips a colour DAbit, a W boson flips a weak-isospin DAbit. So a red quark turning into a green quark by emitting a gluon is, in SPT, literally a DANode hopping along one edge of the Bagua cube. These transitions happen constantly, HERE, in our one universe, every time particles interact.

9. In one breath
A DAbit is one Âm/Dương switch. A DANode is a lattice vertex carrying 7 of them plus a 4-spinor of matter. Three of those switches — the internal-gauge ones — give the eight Bagua trigrams, the eight charge-sectors a particle can occupy. Count the yang switches (the weight w) and you read the sector's character: w=3 Càn is the antimatter pole, w=0 Khôn is the vacuum pole, and the middle shells (w=2 matter-leaning, w=1 yin-dominant) are everything in between. Flip all three switches and you turn any sector into its matter/antimatter partner — the four Z₂_DA pairs. The trigram is the label; the 4-spinor is the contents; a gauge boson is what you emit to move between labels. Eight sectors, one reality, all verified.
